Suggestions for designs
Weaving with different natural materials is an ancient craft and one of mankind’s oldest cultural techniques.
According to Friedrich Fröbel, weaving or interlacing is a ‘game with lines’. Here thin wooden splints in all the colours of the rainbow are woven together to create two-dimensional patterns.
In addition to creating two-dimensional designs using the ‘over and under’ technique, the very flexible nature of this material also allows you to make three-dimensional structures. With the help of the rubber bands provided the wooden strips can be joined together to make complex constructions.
Both of these techniques not only awaken the joy of creating something from your imagination, they also require perseverance and dexterity.
WARNING: Aircraft plywood can break just like any natural material.
HINT: If you want to make the wooden strips more flexible, soak them briefly in water using a different container for each colour.
We recommend that adults teach children the art of weaving and how to use their imagination to create their own designs.
